This is an exciting opportunity to engage with governments, industry and international organisations across Southeast Asia and the Pacific and to contribute to initiatives that support a safer online environment.
As Project Officer, you will work closely with the Assistant Manager, International Engagement to support the delivery of the Online Safety in Southeast Asia and the Pacific project.
This role works with online safety regulators and organisations around the world to help meet our clients mission to protect Australians from online harms and promote safer, more positive online experiences. Through these interactions, you will aim to enhance the clients approach to online safety regulation in Australia, amplify impact across borders and help create a safer and more responsible digital environment worldwide.
In this role, you will be part of a team that is focussed on:
- Conducting desktop research and develop a baseline study to map the current online safety landscape across Southeast Asia and the Pacific, with a particular focus on Fiji, Indonesia, the Philippines, Samoa, Tonga and Viet Nam
- Develop a monitoring, evaluation and learning plan and tools for the project
- Support project administration, including tracking activities and deliverables for monitoring and evaluation purposes, recording risk treatments and project changes, and drafting project progress reports
- Support the coordination of consultation and capacity building workshops, including venue and catering arrangements and the preparation of workshop materials
- Prepare agendas, talking points, and briefing materials for virtual and in-person meetings and events
- Codesign and contextualise resources with international stakeholders that aim to raise community awareness and education of online safety
- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to support the effective delivery of project activities and achievement of project objectives.
- Cultivating relationships with overseas regulators, government agencies and international organisations
- Collaborating globally to address key online safety issues
- Encouraging a human-rights based approach to the regulation of online platforms that protect users from online harms and provide for a free and democratic digital ecosystem
- Promoting cooperation, collaboration and harmonisation across jurisdictions.
You will have
- Strong project management and organisational skills, including experience in monitoring, evaluation and learning, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes within agreed time frames
- Strong research and analytical skills, including the ability to synthesise information from a range of sources, identify key insights and trends and translate findings into practical recommendations and project outputs
- Has experience working with diverse communities to co-design and deliver resources and workshops, ensuring content is accessible, culturally appropriate and responsive to local needs and contexts
- Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Works collaboratively, show initiative and is adaptable in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
- Tertiary degree in a relevant discipline e.g., international development, international relations, social sciences, or relevant experience working in a related context.
The following experiences and skills would be highly regarded:
- High level of cultural competency, including demonstrated skills in communicating and engaging effectively with stakeholders across the Asia-Pacific region
- Knowledge and experience in addressing online safety issues, including technology-facilitated violence against women and children
- A current Working with Children Check
- An understanding and experience of Commonwealth policies and procedures.
